How Much Merit Should You Give to Advice From a Juice Bar Owner?
How much merit should you give to blog posts written by a juice bar owner late at night? That's entirely up to you. Personally, I think if the material in these more than 1,700 blog posts stands on its own and offers something genuinely helpful to your life, then take it seriously enough to put it into action. Do good stuff with it. Experiment with the ideas, test them against your own experience, and see what makes a difference. You don't have to believe everything I say, and you certainly don't have to agree with all of it.
I don't think there's anything particularly woo-woo in my writing, nothing especially wonky, and very little that's abstract or impossible to understand. You'll find plenty of opinions, some well-established science, unusual perspectives, personal experiences, and, I'm sure, a healthy collection of mistakes. If there's one thing I've learned from living this long, it's that a surprising number of things I've done in my life were either accidents, impulsive decisions, or just plain bad choices. I'm not under the illusion that I've suddenly become immune to making more of them. The best I can hope for is to keep developing enough awareness to recognize my mistakes while I'm making them, rather than years later when I'm sitting around wondering what the hell I was thinking.
One last thing I want you to understand is that you're never truly alone in the process of self-help. There are teachers all around us, sometimes in the most unexpected places. They come in the form of friends, strangers, books, therapists, difficult relationships, ordinary conversations, and even people who challenge everything we believe. Sometimes our greatest teachers are the people who make us the most uncomfortable. I hope you'll recognize these teachers when they appear, remain open to what they have to offer, and have the willingness to put what you learn into practice. That's where the real value is, not in how much you know, but in what you actually do with it.
go ahead. we are listening.
