Congratulations on already knowing how to breathe. You’ve done a great job keeping your breath going all these years, long enough to be standing here reading this. Breathe better, however, because most of us breathe very short shallow breaths throughout our day which can induce feelings of anxiety. We breathe this way because of learned breathing patterns and when we feel anxiety we start to breathe shallow which reduces oxygen in our blood which in turn increases our anxiety which causes shallow breathing which lowers oxygen levels and creates anxiety. First become aware when you are breathing shallowly or feel anxious. Regardless, connect to the breath by thinking about and take slow, long, full cycles of breath. Repeat 7-10 times, or practice that 9 to infinity. 


The more oxygen, the slower the heart rate, the slower the heart rate the better functioning the brain. A better brain is a smarter you. Manage any type of stressful situation by bringing yourself back to the breath and count the inhales and exhales. Don’t get distracted by your thoughts or feelings or the breathing exercise will have a lessened effect. Our attention should be focused on the cycles of breathing. Breathe through the nostrils for best results. (Practice this as many times a day as needed for the next however many years, and then come by to teach us new techniques.
