Physicality

Physicality

It goes without saying that as we get older our exercise changes. In our twenties we could jump over a picnic table, somersault, come up standing, and feel nothing in our shoulders. Try that at sixty and we would crack in half. The motion is identical. Something else has changed, and that is perfectly okay.

In this day and age you can exercise every single day with no days off, unless you are ill or injured. And even then, even lying in bed, you can do eye exercises. You can practice pranayama. You can point your toes and flex them. You can clench your fists. You can tighten your buttocks. Whatever is happening to you, there is almost always something available.

So we work to maintain what we have. In some areas we are powerless over the outcome, in others less so, and part of the practice is knowing which is which. Do not take unnecessary risks. Do not waste energy. And for God's sake, do not worry. Be present, and be grateful for your blessings.
