Setting Them Free: Seven Books, Thirty Proofreads, and Decades in the Making

Setting Them Free: Seven Books, Thirty Proofreads, and Decades in the Making

I have been working on these three book series since before Google was invented, first as messy handwritten notes and personal journal entries. During the COVID pandemic, just after I exited my old company, Juice Press, I hired a full time editor, something like a staff writer. He and I worked five days a week organizing several book projects, a few of which I later abandoned.

We first focused on The goodsugar Diet, which I self published in 2021, before goodsugar had a store location on the map. That book is available only through our retail store.

From there, my editor and I moved back and forth among three series: the relationship books, the meditation books, and the addiction books. We recently completed a test print run, found problems with organization and formatting, and then did a second test run. As of September 2026, I have seven completed books in beta format, and I am currently proofreading the hard copies for errata.

When I am satisfied, I will shop the books to a publisher and let them make all the money. These are big textbooks, and I know that in print they will not be bestsellers, no matter how helpful they are. I am not going to promote them, since I am publishing them as Marcus A., and the focus is on the material, not on me. In the near future, they will also be available for sale in our store.

Anyway, they are 90% complete and need about three more months of reading. I have proofread them cover to cover thirty times. I am ready to set them free.
