Choice of Pronouns and Verbs (Vol. I: Appendix A)

The pronouns shift because I am writing to both of us, you and me. Thank you for writing my book with me. (Excerpt from Volume I Meditation & The Work of Living)

Him, his, he, her, hers, she, they, them, you, I, me, ourselves, yourself, these are all great pronouns. Should, could, shall, shall not, think, feel, sense, know, believe are also great words. They all have significant meaning to understand the context of this writing. I am a he. When I write sincerely, I find times when I want to address the reader as "we," "us," and "ourselves."

This is actually because I am messaging through writing to you and me both. I am a student of all of this stuff as well. I say this when I know I have to keep working and reminding the "mind" what it needs to keep knowing. I rarely say, "I believe…" before starting a sentence, unless I do not know for sure what I am talking about. I say, "I know that…" when I am expressing what I know to be knowledge or at least I believe that I know.

Sometimes when I write, I address you as "you," perhaps because I feel beyond the lesson, but I'm not. I'm still confused, and I address myself as you as a way of taking the side door into my mind. Everything I write 100% applies to me. I could write this entire book and refer to myself, me, myself, and I, in every sentence and just keep the book to myself. I could use it to steer through rough waters should they be encountered.

I find that approach monotonous and boring; my work would be two pages if it were about me, myself, and I. Instead, I feel accountable to you, an imaginary reader who may never even read this or get this far in the book. No matter, you and I are the same thing but not really. So who cares about the pronouns? I hope that more men read this work because we are the more violent of the two sexes. I think it is fair to assume that as truth. Anyway, farewell to you, and thank you for writing my book.
