The ultimate diet begins with the breath. Active breathing brings in oxygen, which is the primary element that fuels the cells of the body, giving them the spark of life. The next source of energy comes from the nutrients we consume, and all the different chemical processes in the body rely on either breathing or the consumption of water and food. This is the first lesson of diet.

When our thoughts are in a negative space and we feel anxious, we often force unhealthy substances into our bodies. The mind controls the body in mysterious and profound ways. Many of us experience trauma, neglect, and anxiety repeatedly throughout childhood, creating negative patterns in our minds. Addiction often originates from early anxiety, whether triggered by events, a sense of helplessness, or a lack of coping mechanisms, which is a form of neglect. Anxiety can also relate to post-traumatic stress disorder, as we emulate the behavior of those around us.

There is no immediate plan for weight loss except to stop overeating, eating impure foods, and become active. You will have to endure hunger and the anxieties that arise when you can’t use food to suppress feelings. Enjoying the rituals of cooking, smelling, and tasting food is natural and appropriate, but we must also learn to let go and maintain peace.
