I have several writings about the technical aspects of juice in these articles posted on this website.

In those articles I write more about nutrition and benefits. In this article I am not going to open my mouth about anything technical, I am just going to give a recipe. But everywhere else I will continue to be outspoken!

I cannot write recipes with exact amounts of produce to use. I can only give you liquid ounces. When you practice making juice you learn quickly how many ounces a specific amount of produce yields. If you want to become a home juice expert, buy a $60 digital scale and a measuring cup. You can record your juicing results — for example, how many ounces of juice 3 stalks of celery yield.

When you follow my recipe exactly, by the ounce, you will get the maximum result from that juice formula, and you will have the same taste (more or less) every time. Taste varies on the time of year and the origin of your produce.

Recipe One: 3 Citrus Ginger Burn

I love copious amounts of ginger, and I have seen people get amazing results using a lot of ginger everyday. For any ginger drink, I recommend a minimum of 1 ounce of liquid ginger. If it is too strong for you, dilute it 1:1 with pure drinking water.

  • 1 liquid ounce ginger
  • 2 liquid ounces lemon
  • 4 liquid ounces grapefruit
  • 3 liquid ounces orange
  • Pinch of fresh cayenne pepper. Use a dash or a lot, whichever you prefer. Alternatively, you can use a high quality oil or alcohol extract of cayenne pepper, but be careful — the extracts are very powerful.

You can swap out cayenne for oil of oregano, which has different benefits and a different taste, but I would not use both cayenne and oregano together. It will be too overwhelming.

This 10 ounce juice concoction is perfect for a daily boost. You can mix in 6 liquid ounces of celery juice if you like or you can dilute this recipe with filtered water in a 1:1 ratio, which will increase the volume of the juice, but make it 'go down' a lot easier. You can also dilute this recipe with warm or hot water. The heat is soothing and will help to maintain your core body temperature. The hot version is especially beneficial when you are feeling ill and are trying to prevent feeling a chill.

Note on machines: A great citrus juicer is the Sunkist machine pictured below. This is the highest quality and most robust commercial machine in a table top home use or medium volume commercial kitchen. It will last you a lifetime and make consistent quality citrus juice.

Citrus juice is not acidic to the blood. It is alkalizing. The citric acid converts from being acid on contact to neutralizing to pH when it mixes with digestive alkalies. People with ulcers might avoid this type of juice because it could burn on contact with the digestive system.

Recipe Two: Green Juice with Fruit (My Favorite Juice)

  • 1 liquid ounce spinach
  • 5 liquid ounces celery
  • 5 liquid ounces cucumber
  • 1 liquid ounce ginger
  • 2 liquid ounces pineapple
  • 2 liquid ounces apple

Note: I would not measure the glycemic index of this — or any fresh made juice — no matter what your present health condition is. Instead, eliminate the fresh fruit juices if you would prefer not to use them, and replace with more greens or more ginger. As you clean up their overall diet, specifically eliminating animal proteins, your chemistry will quickly shift for the better. Your blood sugar levels will be more normalized and the sugar from fresh fruits will be helpful, not harmful (in general).

Consult your physician and ignore me exercising my rights for freedom of speech. It's ineffective for a person concerned with their blood sugar levels enough to measure the glycemic index, but, that person will still each processed foods, eat too much protein, drink wine, stay up too late, drink dairy, overeat, and conduct a stressful life. (No judgement). The idea is, to get to the route of the motherf****** problem. Fruit is not the problem. Flesh foods and animal proteins are.


Supreme Citrus Juice

Recipe Three: Supreme Citrus Juice

I prefer ginger and turmeric together — a minimum of one liquid ounce each.

When you work with turmeric, always use black pepper in a good amount to help with the absorption of the beneficial compound curcumin that is in the turmeric.

I prefer to use cold pressed turmeric, but you can always use a blender and use water to make the blend easier.

A rotary style juicer is ok too — but cold pressed juice is the best way!

  • 3 liquid ounces orange juice
  • 3 liquid ounces lemon juice
  • 1 liquid ounce ginger juice
  • 1 liquid ounce turmeric juice
  • 1 capful apple cider vinegar (add more or less to your taste. Usually a capful or a teaspoon is perfect)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 Digestive Immunity Probiotic Capsules (empty the capsule and add the powder inside the mix)
  • Optional: This juice can be diluted with a small amount of water if needed — up to 2-3 liquid ounces.

Lemon has extraordinary cancer fighting properties so it’s worth using in spite of the more tart flavor than orange juice.

Both oranges and lemons have good sugar for energy, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Consider avoiding citrus if you have an ulcer.

A concoction like this may have a very strong flavor. The more ginger, turmeric, or other similar ingredients you use, the stronger and spicier taste. You can always dilute the juice with filtered water.

Above: The Sunkist J1 citrus juicer. This exact model carried Juice Press through the challenging first few years of being a large fast growth chain producing 30-100 gallons of citrus in a single day. It did not break easily. It's small and seemingly indestructive. It's the best juicer in its size and price class. This juicer does citrus only and costs approximately $640. Sunkist also makes a $200 version of this juicer, which I have not used, but I am certain that it performs well.
