Vegan Kendrick Farris: U.S. Olympic Weightlifter

Kendrick Yahcob Farris, the sole U.S. male weightlifter at the Rio Olympics, defies expectations as a vegan athlete. Since transitioning to a plant-based diet in 2014, Farris has maintained his competitive dominance, winning gold at two Pan American Championships and lifting over 800 pounds. His success stems from meticulous food research and a focus on efficient, plant-based protein sources like avocados. Embracing his heritage as a member of the Israelite community, Farris incorporates ancient traditions, including a kosher diet, into his lifestyle. (A photograph of goodsugar founder Marcus Antebi with Farris, taken around 2017, commemorates their meeting outside the first Juice Press store in New York City.)
