For far too long, humanity has been overly reliant on single-use plastic. This is a cause for concern because not only is it unnecessary for retail packaging, but it also contributes to an enormous amount of waste - approximately 88 billion tonnes - that takes decades to decompose. Unfortunately, during this time, plastic particles are absorbed by aquatic animals, which can end up in the human food chain. This is a serious concern that we must address.
One of the main issues with plastic is its unappealing appearance: it's difficult to imagine anyone who prefers being surrounded by plastic to living in a pristine environment. Furthermore, the use of single-use plastic poses a threat to both people and the environment for various reasons. Eliminating all single-use plastic items, especially products like plastic wrap on straws, would have significant benefits.
Unfortunately, single-use plastic is prevalent because it's cheap, transparent, and highly effective at containing items. It's easy to see why it's so widely used, but we must consider the long-term consequences of its use.
(A Children's Song)
