Why We Refuse to Rip You Off: The Real Story Behind goodsugar’s Pricing

Thoughts on Pricing at goodsugar

I wanted to share my thoughts on how we approach pricing at the goodsugar store.

After leaving my previous juice company — where they started using high-pressure pasteurization (HPP) — I realized how much that process compromises both freshness and flavor. Sure, HPP extends shelf life for days or even weeks, but the juice often ends up tasting flat and uninspired. Fresh, cold-pressed juice is superior in every way — yet my former company didn’t adjust their prices to reflect the diminished quality.

In New York, competition is fierce, and unfortunately, some prices have gotten outrageous. I’ve seen companies charge over $17 for a single juice (after tax and bottle deposit). It begs the question: who can actually sustain that as a lifestyle — in New York City or anywhere else?

While I fully understand that rising produce costs — especially post-pandemic — are real, we chose a different model at goodsugar:
High volume, lower margins.
Not the other way around.

At goodsugar, you’re getting the best cold-pressed juice, made from organic produce, served fresh in glass — no plastic to interfere with your healthy choice.
Our pricing reflects that commitment:

  • Two juices for $18

  • Two shots (2.5 oz each) for $10

This is an incredible value for a top-tier product.

My grandfather used to say, “The one with the lowest price and the best product always wins.” (Okay, maybe he never said that — but if he had worked in retail, I'm pretty sure he would have!)

At the end of the day, I believe offering quality and affordability together is what truly sets us apart in this competitive market.
