building a team

building a team

In the work environment, when stress compounds upon an already burdened mind, we find ourselves in a constant state of overload. We enter fight or flight mode, lacking full consciousness, and prone to making more mistakes while tasks take exponentially longer. But amidst this suffering, where do we find respite?

Let us not overlook the crucial role of front-of-house staff. It is easy to forget the significance of recruiting, onboarding, training, nurturing, and supporting them. The mentality of leadership must be grounded in a clear understanding of the task at hand: to attract and retain exceptional individuals.

At the core of this philosophy lies a fundamental perspective shift from most retail businesses. We must refer to them as 'people.' They are not mere workers, staff, or employees, but fellow human beings. Viewing them as such prevents dehumanization and enables us to treat them with the respect they deserve. Embracing this approach is not only the right thing to do, but it also serves our own self-interest. When people feel supported and genuinely happy, they become invaluable contributors to the team.
