who is monsanto?

I apologize to the shareholders of Monsanto. I am not going overboard here, just reporting commonly known things that are well documented and supported. No chemtrails, no missing activists, just simple facts you can find in about thirty seconds on the internet.

Monsanto was a multinational agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation that, for better or worse, fundamentally changed how we grow food on this planet. Yes, better or worse. They actually did some things right.

Let's start there. Monsanto developed genetically modified crops designed to increase yields, reduce pest damage, and lower reliance on chemical pesticides in certain applications. They invested heavily in biotechnology research and development. They collaborated with research institutions and agricultural organizations worldwide. They created jobs. They fed millions of people. So there's that.

But here's where it gets interesting. Monsanto was primarily known for two things: genetically modified seeds with herbicide resistance and insect resistance traits, and the herbicide glyphosate, commonly sold under the brand name Roundup. The company was relentless about protecting its intellectual property, employing legal measures that led to battles with farmers who disagreed with the practice of patenting seeds. It's one thing to invent something. It's another thing to litigate farmers into oblivion for replanting seeds that grow on their own land.

The safety and environmental impact of glyphosate became the subject of significant debate and legal disputes. Multiple lawsuits were filed. Concerns were raised about potential health risks and long-term environmental effects. These were not fringe conversations. These were documented concerns from scientists, farmers, and regulators.

In 2018, Bayer AG, a German multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company, acquired Monsanto. The Monsanto brand ceased to exist, and its operations were integrated into Bayer's agricultural division. So Monsanto didn't disappear. It just changed its name tag.

Discussions around Monsanto and its products remain contentious. Opinions vary widely depending on who you ask, where they farm, and whether they've ever been sued by the company for patent violations. The reality is this: Monsanto did legitimate agricultural research and helped increase crop yields in a world that needed feeding. It also engaged in aggressive corporate practices and produced a widely used herbicide whose long-term safety profile remains debated.

Both things are true. That's how you find the actual story.
